This represents a more advanced stage of the condition, with more significant impact on detailed vision tasks like reading and face recognition, though the timeline to reach this stage – if it’s reached at all – varies enormously between individuals.

Because progression varies and can be non-linear, regular monitoring – through visual field testing, ERG, and OCT imaging – helps track an individual patient’s actual disease course rather than relying on general assumptions. This monitoring also helps identify when adjustments to daily life support, low vision aids, or treatment discussions may become newly relevant.
